Pocklington Pixies ease past YG's in low scoring match

Captain Bevan Fawcett won the toss on a cloudy day at Escrick and chose to bat first. The decision may have gone in the visitors favour, with a lot of rain earlier in the week the pitch was very slow and runs were hard to come by.

The YG's got off to a slow start with the 50 coming up in the 19th over for only the loss of one wicket. No.3 Richard Musgrave (27) with a series of powerful sweeps was joint top scorer with extras as most of the middle/lower order batsman struggled to score quick runs, ducks for numbers 6, 7 and 8. The pick off the Pixies bowlers was C.Suddaby with 9 overs 3 for 16. However, the whole bowling unit bowled well, never letting the run rate exceed 3. The Gents ending on a total of 116 which looked low but due to the nature of the pitch was still a tough ask.

As the Gents took to the field the sun arrived but this didn't make batting any easier opening bowlers Alex Bindloss (23-3) and Will Middleton (14-0) conceding just 29 runs between them in the first 12 overs. The game was in the balance with 16 overs to go for the Pixies on 61-3. Batsman J. Holman was the difference between the sides, the only batsman on the day to look somewhat fluent with 31 not out took his side home with 5 overs to spare and a 4 wicket win. A well contested game on a tricky wicket made for an interesting match.
