The YG’s being led off the field by Bevan Fawcett after his six wicket haul.

A good all round performance saw the YG’s comfortable winners against a good Leeds University side. Batting first the YG’s were reduced to 30-2 before a superb 182 run partnership between new member Callum Puttock (83) and Charlie Elliott. Charlie fell agonisingly short of a hundred offering the bowler a return catch on 99. A late flurry of wickets saw the club finish their 40 overs on 223-7

In reply the University got off to a flying start with a 68 run opening stand. The arrival of spin duo Angus Shaw and Bevan Fawcett saw a dramatic change to the game. Wickets tumbled and the visitors fell well short of their target being bowled out for 127 in the 30th over. A superb spell of bowling by Bevan saw him finish with figures of 6-30 off 9 overs. Angus Shaw also bowled well with 3-25 off 8.

YG’s v York Wanderers - Sunday 2nd May

The Yorkshire Gentlemen captained by Neil Dale hosted The York Wanderers this Sunday for a 40 over game. The Gents batted first on a cold windy day which forced the players to come off for rain at one stage but no overs were lost.

Similarly to the previous Sunday the Gents opened with Jason Dale and David O'Kelly who put on 73 for the first wicket when Dale fell for 30. It was a steady start, with 24 overs already faced.

This brought Salman Syed to the crease who brought real impetus to the innings, whilst riding his luck a bit (being caught off a no ball at one stage). O'Kelly after reaching his 50 increased his scoring rate significantly as the pair put on 135 in just over 15 overs. O'Kelly fell in the penultimate over for a well made 92 and Syed finished on 73 off 50 balls. The final score 224-2.

In reply the Wanders didn't get off to the quickest start thanks to a 10 over opening spell from James Van Der Merwe who only conceded 23 runs. This meant at the halfway stage the score was only on 61 putting a lot of pressure on the batsman to score quick runs. A good innings was built by youngster Alex Wood who scored 76 but with the Gents consistently taking wickets including a superb direct hit run out by promising talent Geoff Barker the total was never really in threat of being chased down. The victory margin being 29 runs, it may have been more comprehensive if the Gents had held 4/5 dropped catches on the day. Man of the Match was awarded to Salman Syed for his all round contributions with bat and ball.
