The Annual AGM was once again held at Queen Margaret's School, Escrick on Wednesday 11th April. It was very well attended with just shy of 30 members enjoying the evening meal and pre season get together. This followed on from the formal business of the AGM. All club officials were duly re-elected to post with one notable exception.
Charles Glassey has been the Honourable Treasurer of the club for the past 29 years. He tried once before to escape and was persuaded to return but he has finally decided to hang up his quill and who can blame him. The committee and indeed the whole club are indebted to him for all the work and dedication to his duties he has shown over the years. Few members of the club passed and present have held a post for so long. It sort of feels inadequate but as a club we wish to simply say Thank-you.
The committee are yet to fill the vacancy but wanted to put on record that the office of Hon Treasurer can be held for less than a quarter of a century!
Other key members of the club - especially Paul White and Nigel Bartram, were encouraged to break all club records.
Many other thanks were passed during the evening - notably to Dick Brewster who did a huge amount of work with the membership and running of the old website. Much of this new website has been based on the great work Dick did on the previous site. Dick moved away from the area last year and his duties have been taken over by other club members. Apologies to all other thanks given and not mentioned on this news page. They have been noted though.
The AGM concluded with an update on the MCC Law Changes by one of the Club's umpires; Bill Dalton. Some amusement was shown about the ability of some of our bowlers being able to meet the standards required to complete a full over.
Warm weather and sunshine looks like it will arrive in the nick of time for the start of the season. So good luck to the club and here's for an enjoyable and successful summer ahead.
