The YGs beat Leeds University by 68 runs with one ball to spare in an excellent encounter on the opening day of the season.
The YGs batted first and were well placed at lunch with Andy Carson scoring 60 on debut and Geoff Barker 30. A mini collapse saw the home side slip from 98-1 to 111-5, but a rapid unbroken stand between Charlie Elliot, 68 not out and Phil Holland 29 not out allowed the YGs to declare on 213-5 after 42 overs.
In reply, good bowling and loss of wickets at regular intervals meant Leeds University never really challenged the total. A draw looked the likely result until match manager Angus Fraser took the last wicket with the penultimate ball of the match to leave Leeds Uni 145 all out. Notable contributions Angus Fraser 3-53, Ryan Lockwood 2-10, Tom Conboy 2-24, and Bevan Fawcett 2-19
A great start to the season for the YGs
